Bio

Mike Byrne is a drummer and teacher based in Los Angeles, CA. From 2009 to 2014, Mike played drums for multi-platinum alternative rock band, The Smashing Pumpkins. While with the Smashing Pumpkins, he recorded on several releases including Oceania, the band’s eighth major release. In addition, Mike has performed on several major tours on arena and festival stages worldwide. Mike is also a founding member of Portland based band Bearcubbin’! , and has additionally worked with such artists as Kesha, Adam Lambert, Børns, and K. Flay.

Mike began playing when he was twelve years old, quickly realizing that he had found his passion. Studying under multiple teachers, Mike explored many musical styles. In 2011, Mike won Modern Drummer Magazine’s prestigious “Up and Coming Drummer of the Year” award, and, two years later, was nominated again for “Alternative Drummer of the Year.” Modern Drummer said that Mike has “a frightening amount of talent” and possesses “mature poise behind the kit.” In addition to being a drummer, Mike also plays a number of other instruments and has extensive experience with programming and electronic instruments.
